Coraline
Coraline is a strange but interesting story about a little girl who moves into a new house while her parents still do not seem to pay attention to her. She goes against her parents rules and gets into a closet that transports her into a different world where she meets people she calls her "Other parents". The Other parents look just like her parents except they have buttons for eyes and act quite strangely. She goes back and forth between the worlds until she decides she like the other world better. Her Other mother tries to get Coraline to sew buttons onto her eyes so she can stay in that world forever but Coraline figures out that her Other mother is just doing this to control her. The Other mother holds Coraline there until she escapes back into the real world with her real parents. This would be a great chapter book for advanced readers in the class.
